Jos Verstappen: “Non si dovrebbe festeggiare troppo presto”

Jos Verstappen: “We shouldn’t celebrate too soon” – F1 Piloti – Formula 1

Formula 1 is flying to Canada for the great return to Montreal, but the latest emotions experienced on the track are still stuck a few days ago, with the GP d’Azerbaigian. The eighth round of the world championship, which was archived last weekend, gave the joy of the fifth seasonal victory for Max Verstappen, even more leader of the drivers’ classification after the double retirement of the Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. Likewise, the Red Bull can strengthen his first place in the constructors’ rankings, with Sergio Perez now 21 points behind his teammate after overtaking Leclerc. In an atmosphere of trust and celebration, however, it is the father of the reigning world champion who calls for general calm.

Jos Verstappen expressed happiness for the victory of his son, but he does not want the level of attention to be lowered to the point of allowing a return of the opponents: “A win is always good, just as it is good to see that Max and Red Bull work well together – commented Verstappen senior – after the two retirements at the start of the season, everyone thought she might be lost. Now we see that Ferrari has problems, but the situation can change in an instant, and of course this remains a very technical sport. We see that Red Bull is often right, given the knowledgeable people and experience it has, but we must certainly not cheer too soonWhy the year is still very long“.

In this respect, some mistakes made during the race, on all those of one, have not escaped strategy adopted by Red Bull which could have provided an ‘assist’ to Ferrari to keep the lead: “I thought Max was incredibly strong in Baku during the race, and let’s be honest: everything went very well – continued the Dutchman – I think Ferrari made a good choice by doing return to Leclerc during the Virtual Safety Car, and the gap became 13 seconds. Then there was another VSC, Leclerc could have taken advantage of it again. The fact that he retired due to a technical problem logically worked in our favor. Max could have caught up with him, but at that point he had to risk again and overtake, but it didn’t go like that ”.
